Our Process — ÓGIN Distillery

Unlike mass-produced spirits that aim for consistency year after year, we embrace variation. A warm summer produces different botanicals than a cool one. Early frost changes the character of late-season berries. Each vintage is a snapshot of that year's unique conditions.

This is what makes ÓGIN special. You're not just drinking a gin—you're tasting a specific moment in the life of Swedish Lapland, never to be repeated.

Seasonal foraging in Swedish Lapland

Seasonal Foraging

As the Arctic spring awakens, we begin our harvest. Walking the forests and meadows of Boviken, we hand-pick each botanical at the precise moment of peak flavor—juniper berries heavy with essential oils, meadowsweet just as it blooms, wild herbs at their most aromatic.

This isn't farming; it's a conversation with the land. We take only what nature offers, ensuring the wild spaces that sustain us continue to thrive.

Traditional copper pot distillation

Traditional Distillation

In our copper pot stills, centuries-old techniques meet modern precision. Each botanical is treated with care—some macerated, some vapor-infused—to extract the purest expression of its character.

The distillation is slow and deliberate. We make careful cuts, selecting only the heart of the spirit where the true flavors reside. What remains is crystal clear, intensely aromatic, and unmistakably ógin.

Oak casks for Arctic maturation

Arctic Maturation

For our barrel-aged expressions, we turn to Swedish oak casks and the most patient collaborator of all: the Arctic winter. As temperatures plunge, the spirit contracts into the wood. When spring returns and the barrels warm, it draws out rich, honeyed complexity.

This natural rhythm—the breath of the Arctic—cannot be rushed or replicated. It is our terroir made liquid, our landscape captured in oak and time.

Hand bottling ÓGIN spirits

Bottling & Vintage

Each bottle is filled, sealed, and numbered by hand. The vintage year tells you exactly when these botanicals were harvested, making every bottle a time capsule of that year's unique growing conditions.

When a vintage is gone, it's gone forever—replaced by the next year's expression, similar in spirit but distinct in character. This is the beauty of seasonal craft.
